Veterans’ Affairs Dental Services for DVA Card Holders
At St Ives Dental Group, we welcome eligible patients accessing dental care through the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA).
The DVA Dental Program helps eligible veterans and other Veteran Card holders access clinically necessary dental treatment. Depending on your card type, dental needs and DVA requirements, you may be eligible for a range of services, including dental examinations, preventive care, fillings, crowns and dentures.
Understanding what treatment is covered and how to access dental services can sometimes be confusing. Our team can help explain the booking process, discuss your dental concerns and outline the information you may need before your appointment.
Who Is Eligible for DVA Dental Care?
You may be eligible for dental treatment through the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) if you hold a valid Veteran Gold Card or Veteran White Card.
The type of card you hold determines which dental services you may be able to access.
- Veteran Gold Card: Provides access to clinically necessary treatment for a range of health conditions, whether or not they are related to your military service.
- Veteran White Card: Provides access to treatment for accepted service-related conditions and certain other conditions covered by DVA.
If you hold a White Card, your dental treatment generally needs to relate to an accepted condition or another condition covered under DVA arrangements.
Your eligibility and the treatment available will depend on your card type, clinical needs and applicable DVA guidelines. If you are unsure whether your dental concerns are covered, our team can help explain what information may be required.
What Dental Treatments Are Covered by DVA?
Eligible patients may be able to access a range of dental services through the DVA Dental Program. The treatment available depends on your clinical needs and the services included in the applicable DVA dental schedule.
Depending on your eligibility, dental treatment may include:
- Preventive care: Routine dental examinations, scale and cleans and other preventive services.
- Restorative treatment: Fillings and treatment for tooth decay or damaged teeth.
- Dental crowns: Restorations used to repair and protect teeth that require additional support.
- Dentures: Full or partial dentures, adjustments and repairs where eligible.
- Other dental procedures: Treatment for certain dental conditions, injuries and more complex restorative needs.
Some procedures, including certain implant-related treatments, may have additional eligibility criteria or require prior financial approval from DVA.
Not every dental procedure is automatically covered, even if you hold a valid Veteran Card. Your dentist will assess your oral health, discuss suitable treatment options and explain any relevant DVA requirements before proceeding.
Accessing Dental Care Through DVA
If you hold a valid DVA Veteran Gold or White Card, you can contact St Ives Dental Group to arrange a dental appointment.
When booking, let our team know that you are accessing dental care through DVA and whether you hold a Gold or White Card. If you have a White Card, please also advise whether your dental concerns relate to an accepted service-related condition.
This information helps our team understand your circumstances and prepare for your appointment.
To help with the booking and assessment process, please have the following information available:
- Your valid DVA Veteran Gold or White Card.
- Details of any relevant accepted service-related conditions, if applicable.
- Any referrals or prior treatment approvals, where required.
- Information about your current dental concerns and relevant treatment history.
Please bring your DVA card to your appointment so your details and eligibility can be checked.
Will I Have to Pay for My Dental Treatment?
DVA covers eligible dental treatment in accordance with its approved fee schedule and program requirements.
If your treatment is covered by DVA and provided within the applicable guidelines, you generally will not have an out-of-pocket expense. However, some procedures have funding limits, specific eligibility requirements or require prior financial approval from DVA before treatment can proceed.
If you are considering more complex dental treatment, your dentist can explain the proposed procedure and whether additional approval may be needed.
It is important to confirm the coverage requirements before commencing treatment. Our team can help clarify the administrative process and discuss any applicable requirements with you.
